Castor Oil to Induce Labor

So I guess so you very close to labor and you are wondering if using castor oil to induce labor is a good idea. Well you have come to the right place as I can explain all you need to know about castor oil and I’ll also give you my personal recommendation.

Castor oil has been used for many, many years. It’s not used today my many doctors and midvifes as other methods suchs as the use of pitocin are considered more advanced and safe. Still, there are many women that prefer using castor oil to induce labor.

Personally I’ve used the same method to induce labor twice. Worked both times! Find out  how I used Maternity Acupressure to naturally induce labor! Click Here To Find Out More

Will Castor Oil Work For Me?

It might. It doesn’t have a very high success rate but if you have begun dilating then this will increase our change of labor induction. Let me be very clear on one thing. If you have not reached your due date you should NOT use castor oil and should always consult with your doctor or midwife before doing so.

I personally do not recommend using castor oil and I’ll explain why. It almost always causes diarrhea. You see, castor oil is a laxative that causes cramps and tightening of the muscles in the intestines. It may also cause abdominal cramping, nausea and vomiting. Obviously this will dehydrate your body and make it weaker, something you do not want just before having a baby. Not to mention that it can cause fetal stress. In adition to this it has a real nasty taste. You should rather read about all the other methods on how to start labor.

Is Castor Oil Effective to Start Labor

People don’t seem to agree on this one. I have been unable to find any research or studies on castor oil that show it’s effectiveness on labor. However there are plenty of women out there that swear by it. Personally I think it’s an urban legend, an old wifes tale. I guess the only answer you will get is “maybe, maybe not”.

Where Can I Buy Castor Oil

You will find castor oil in almost any drug store. Start your search in the laxtive aile.

How Do I Use Castor Oil

I have been unable to get a straight answer for this one. I guess that since the results aren’t proven neither is the dosage. Most midwifes recommend about 2 ounces.

I recommend that you mix it with something else since it has an awful, oily taste. You could have a lemon ready to suck on right after your drink it.
